Pakistan Not to Play India
The ongoing question of whether Pakistan and India will face each other on the cricket field has once again dominated headlines. The political dimensions of this rivalry — and the enormous commercial consequences — make it one of the most consequential decisions in world cricket governance.
My Thoughts
This is not simply a sporting dispute. It is a political decision wrapped in a cricket jersey. The billions of dollars at stake in bilateral series, neutral-venue tournaments, and broadcasting rights mean that both cricket boards — and the ICC — face enormous pressure from multiple directions.
My view is that cricket should always seek to be a bridge between nations, not a wall. History has shown that India–Pakistan matches generate unparalleled passion, viewership, and revenue. Walking away from that is a loss for the game, for fans, and ultimately for cricket's growth in the subcontinent and beyond.
The ICC has a responsibility here. It cannot continue to allow member boards to selectively participate in global events while refusing bilateral engagement. Governance must have teeth — and the consequences of non-participation need to be clearly defined and consistently applied.
